We had our RCIA Fun Raising on the 30th of August 2009, Sunday. There were lots of preparation that was needed and that was done on Saturday. Come Sunday early morning we were all gathered at the Church Canteen to start the final preparation of the food. Since this deals with food I’ll not write up too much and just show the pictures :)
So first up what did we have well LOTS if I do say so myself, here’s the foodie list.
a look at some of the food ……….

one of our specialty dishes was the Chang (both Nonya and Kim Choo varieties) and the home made Sambal which was shiok !! some say best in Singapore and JB and some even say Batam.
We had a revolutionary system, they key was HAD, it practically fell apart after the first wave of hungry parishioners descended on us. I guess just like Leonardo Da Vinci and Einstein the system was just too radical for our time. Anyways here’s how it goes.
First you place an order. Here’s the order table manned (or womanned) by Edith and Cristina with the help of Shiang Boon. Look at how ready they were all the neat paper order forms and calculator even. (that did not last long)
You place your order and you take the slip to payment and wait in line for your food. (theoretically speaking) Here’s an example of a very satisfied customer.
Now payment and to get your Kueh Kueh was manned by these 2 beautiful ladies, Marie and Maggi
You then went on to get your drinks, which was manned by Fred and his bevy of beauties made up of Delphina, Maggi and Doris. You notice that Delphina’s hair’s a little messy and the worrying thing was that WE HAD NOT STARTED YET !!!
You then went to sit down and enjoy your food. Of course we had people walking around clearing tables as well, John’s an example, I guess he forgot that white towel you sling over your shoulder.
So what about the Kitchen, here’s the calm before the storm everyone sitting back relaxing.
and who can forget our hard working Chief cook Jennifer (more on her later) and Sally. Hopefully not too many ‘secret ingredients’ were used.
The first wave was quite ok, but the second wave after the chinese mass threw everything into chaos but I guess that is good since that means that we were in BUSINESS. The cash registers were ringing non-stop, friend noodles ran out, extra utensils had to be catered for, boiled water for the drinks were running low. plates were not cleared fast enough nor washed fast enough. The rain did wonders selling out the Bah Chang which was so popular that not only were people buying them but they were asking where to get it. The Sambal flew off the shelves once people had a sample of it everyone wanted to bring a bottle home.

The shot above of everyone enjoying themselves and below some of the sales going on.
and here is the moment where Plan B was executed. or was it plan C, maybe it was Plan D by then :)
Some of the helpers in action.
Some of the ‘resting’ volunteers …. (hey look Sonny and Cher were there.)

Take Five
Not forgetting out Jumble Sale which was happening outside the Canteen area, it was doing brisk business as well. Here were some of the left overs I heard everything was snapped up in the first hour or so.
The goodies on sale and some of the RCIA members helping out, Lydia, Osmond, Jasmine and Spencer.
Last but not least, we had a Birthday Celebration for one of our members. Can you guess who. Our very own hard working Chief Cook.
All in a very tired but enjoyable day. In the end we managed to raised almost $1000 for the RCIA fund.
WELL DONE EVERYONE
and a big THANK YOU to all those who came to help or volunteered in one way or another.
* my apologise if I spelt anyone’s name wrongly or got the pictures mixed up :)
